The project is a critical binational effort to address long-standing sewage pollution issues in the Tijuana River Valley. The completion of the Parallel Gravity Line is expected to significantly reduce the risk of untreated wastewater spills in the region.

The expansion of the South Bay plant to 50 MGD is a major infrastructure undertaking that will increase the facility's capacity to treat wastewater from both sides of the border. This project is being closely monitored due to its environmental and public health implications for Southern California.

Construction on Phase 2 of the Tijuana River Gates is also underway. These infrastructure improvements are part of a multi-year strategy to restore water quality and protect the coastal ecosystems of the Pacific border region.
